As a mom of two small kids and a health coach, I’m pretty mindful of what I feed my children. Now that they’re both in school, I have a lot less control over what they eat and a lot of the food they get outside the house is junk. The problem starts with our food industry. Food companies use deceiving marketing and nutrition buzzwords like natural, whole grain and antioxidant so we believe we’re buying something healthy. If you look at the ingredients of these “healthy” foods, it seems as if there are little to no regulations for these claims.

We recently moved from New York City to a house in the suburbs which means lots of entertaining. In the summer, it’s fun to get creative with fruit for dessert. Peaches are so delicious this time of the year. While they’re fantastic on their own, I recently threw them on the grill and added some fresh banana ice cream for the perfect summer treat!

It’s so easy to break open a bag of goldfish, pretzels or fruit snacks for your kids. The companies producing these products make it simple with individual servings, fun character themes and cute little shapes. But, guess what? These cute little snacks are full of chemicals and are made in laboratories. The list of ingredients is long and confusing, full of strange chemicals and carcinogens. With the onset of childhood obesity and developmental issues, it makes me wonder how these foods are affecting our children.
Every Sunday during the cold months, I make a chicken soup. I always start first thing in the morning when the kids get up. The secret to a great chicken soup is creating a flavorful, rich broth which is actually quite easy.
