For global makeup artist Bobbi Brown, beauty and wellness go hand in hand. Be Well chats with the cosmetic entrepreneur, who believes true beauty starts from the inside.
Wellness Inspiration: Nutritionist Dr. Charles Passler, health coach Linda Arrant, alkaline diet expert Daryl Gioffre, the founder of Clean Food Dirty City, Lily Kunin, and of course, Dr. Lipman! Also, my friend and yogi, Danielle Diamond, and my strength and conditioning coach, Cody Plofker (who also happens to be my son).
Health Passion: Knowing which foods contain which nutrients will help you balance out your diet. This way you can also target specific beauty concerns by eating foods rich in the nutrients you need. When it comes to beauty, I’m a firm believer that it starts from the inside.
Wellness Is ______: Being comfortable and confident in your own skin, the best version of yourself from the inside out.
Guilty Pleasures: Tequila and dark chocolate.
Relax & Chill Out: I make it a point to break a sweat every day. That time by myself, listening to my favorite music, clears my head and helps me relax.
Morning Start: I make myself an espresso (with a touch of coconut oil in it!) and read the daily paper/blogs at my kitchen table.
Exercise of Choice: I love HIIT (high intensity interval training) classes, but I like to pair them with yoga classes for a true mind/body connection. Sometimes, though, my favorite thing to do is just take a long walk.
Sleep Routine: My bedtime differs nightly but I try to make sure I get at least 6–8 hours of sleep. Sometimes it doesn’t happen but I try!
Travel Carry-ons: Flying can dehydrate the skin and lips. I always carry Vaseline lip balm and a face oil that moisturizes my skin and gives me a great glow.
Currently Reading: Orphan Train, by Christina Baker Kline.
Always in Fridge: Avocados and hard-boiled eggs. Avocados are filled with good, healthy fats, and they make any meal taste better. Hard-boiled eggs are easy to make, portable, and loaded with protein and good fats that help support the production of collagen.
Pantry Staples: Apple cider vinegar—this is an ingredient nearly everyone has in their kitchen, but it also doubles as a health and beauty remedy. Flaxseeds, hemp seeds, and chia seeds—I put these seeds into pretty much everything: smoothies, oatmeal, desserts. Coconut oil—it is full of good, saturated fats that are great for health and skin.
Daily Supplements: As a baseline, I take supplements for nutrients that are difficult to get from food alone. I take fish oil, a probiotic, and vitamin D3. If I’m really stressed I’ll take a B-complex vitamin, and if I’m traveling, I take magnesium for improved sleep.
Favorite Healthy Food On-the-Go: Raw almonds (great source of protein, and they fill me up), apples, and I always make sure I have water when I’m on the move. Water is a game changer for your body, brain, and beauty.
Ingredient I Always Avoid: White sugar.
Can’t Live Without: My husband. He is my rock.
