Restore + Glow With This Gut-Healing And Immunity-Boosting Tonic Smoothie

If you are an avid Be Well follower, you are aware by now of our firm belief that true health starts in the gut. A balanced gut keeps immunity up (especially during the winter months), helps to stabilize mood, and can help to ward off illnesses. Following a gut-healing protocol with proper food and supplementation is key to obtaining optimal wellbeing. Below are some of my favorite ingredients to include into a daily regimen. What is the easiest way to incorporate them into your routine? Load up on all these gut healing essentials by combining and adding them to your AM smoothie! You will be surprised at how quickly you feel the benefits when drinking this simple gut tonic daily.

Aloe Vera Gel/Juice

Ingesting Aloe internally is an ancient healing tradition that is very soothing to the digestive tract. It can be a remedy for acid reflux, constipation, upset stomachs, and overall help to heal and restore the digestive lining.

Raw Apple Cider Vinegar

This is an essential gut healing remedy as it boosts healthy gut flora and can aid indigestion/heartburn, gas/bloating, and help balance the pH of the body.

L-Glutamine powder

This supplement is the #1 leaky gut-healing supplement we recommend. Adding anywhere between 5-10 grams to your smoothie will help heal your digestive lining as well as curb sugar cravings during the day.

Leafy Greens + Green Powder

Including fresh leafy greens, a green powder, such as Phytogreens, or better yet, both, into your smoothie can be a vital nutrient boost as greens are loaded with fiber and nutrients we need to thrive. Fiber has a host of health benefits including treating/preventing constipation, boosting the immune system, decreasing risk of disease and illness, and most importantly, fiber feeds your healthy microbes!

Collagen Powder

A good quality collagen powder helps heal your digestive lining which can prevent gut permeability. Bonus, it is great for you skin, bones, joints, and hair! 

Ginger

A powerful immune booster, Ginger also can help inhibit bad bacteria growth in the gut which may combat common viruses. It is very soothing for the digestive tract, and can help with nausea.

Probiotic Powder

A strong and balanced gut microbiome = a strong immune system. Boost your healthy microbes with added probiotics.

Lemon

Lemon helps flush your liver and aids digestion. Lemon also contains Vitamin C which gives you a nice immunity boost.

Parsley

This is a super herb that can provide relief for many gastrointestinal ailments such as indigestion, cramping, and bloating. It is loaded with vitamins and minerals that also boost the immune system, and has antibacterial properties.



Gut Healing and Immune Boosting Tonic Smoothie Recipe

Ingredients:

8-10 ounces Filtered Water
4 ounces Aloe Vera gel/juice
1 cup organic leafy greens of choice and/or 1 Tablespoon Phytogreens
1/4 cup organic parsley
1/4 cup organic berries (optional)
1/4 avocado (optional)
Juice of ¼ a lemon
1 tablespoon ACV
1 tablespoon Collagen Refresher (or other high quality brand of choice)
1 tablespoon chia and/or flax seeds (Optional)
5-10 grams of L-Glutamine Powder 
1 teaspoon of Probiotic Powder
1 inch piece of peeled, organic ginger

NOTE: You can also add cucumber, celery, and/or a different fruit of choice, as well as substitute unsweetened coconut or nut milk for filtered water. Also, can add any other superfoods or adaptogen herbs if you so desire.

Instructions:

Place all ingredients and blend until smooth. Enjoy!
