For many people it creeps up around 3pm. For others it’s the long stretch between dinner and bedtime. Or maybe it happens every time you’re feeling stressed or overwhelmed.
It may start like a whisper but before long your sugar craving is screaming to be fulfilled.
You know it’s not good for you. You know it’s not going to make you feel good. You may even know that it’s likely to ruin your mood. So you do your best to “be good”.
Then you arrive at your meeting and find cookies on the table, or you come across a bit of chocolate stashed away. Or maybe you’re passing by the fragrant coffee shop & before you know it you’ve downed a mocha and you’re feeling a familiar wave of nausea & disappointment washing over you.
Sugar cravings are no joke. And the more you give in to them the more they grow in strength & frequency.
But it doesn’t have to be like this.
The next time a sugar craving creeps up on you, try these three simple steps:
- Take a deep breath & acknowledge that you’re craving sugar
- Give yourself a distraction: Take a walk, drink a glass of water, talk to a friend
- Try a healthy substitution: Fruit, nut butter, & peppermint tea are all good options
