Many people associate cumin, coriander and fennel seeds with savory cooking, but they also combine to make a perfect Cleanse-friendly tea. The healing spices assist with gas and bloating and help to detoxify the body. Adding turmeric (use fresh if you can find it!) imparts a beautiful golden color — as well as anti-inflammatory properties. I also like to add a little fresh ginger as well.
Make a big pot of this detox tea, and sip throughout the day!
Detox Tea (Makes 4 cups)
- 1 quart water
- 1 tsp. whole cumin seeds
- 1 tsp. whole coriander seeds
- 1 tsp. fennel seeds
- 1 T. fresh turmeric root, sliced, (or ½ teaspoon dried turmeric)
- 1 T. fresh ginger, sliced (optional)
Bring the water to a simmer in a 2-quart saucepan. Add the rest of the ingredients, and simmer for 5 minutes. Turn off the heat, and allow the tea to steep for another 5 minutes. Strain.
Drink warm or at room temperature. Store in the refrigerator if you are planning to sip it throughout the day.
