How To Build The Perfect Smoothie

Is it obvious that we’re huge fans of smoothies? Well, we are. They’re an everyday staple on the Be Well Cleanse, and even after the cleanse is over, we recommend having smoothies for breakfast. Smoothies are also great as a snack or meal replacement, and they’re kid-friendly as an alternative to sugary sweets.

People are always asking me what are the best things to add to smoothies, so here’s a little overview of how to make delicious shakes that are sugar, gluten and dairy free. Under each category, I list a few options, so mix it up and get creative based on your personal taste!

Base (liquid):

(about 1-2 cups)

– Pure water
– Almond milk
– Coconut milk
– Coconut water
– Hemp milk or other nut/seed milk of your choice
– Chilled green tea or herbal tea

Protein Powders:

(serving as specified) 

Sustain packet (pea protein based)
– Recharge packet (whey protein and greens)
– Be Well Whey Protein
– Be Well Organic Plant Protein
– Other protein powder of choice

Healthy Fats:

(about 1-2 tablespoons)

– Avocado
– Almond butter
– Sunflower seed butter
– Other nut/seed butters
– Coconut oil
– Coconut meat

– Tahini
MCT Oil

Greens:

(about 1/4-1/2 cup)

(about 1/2 cup. Low sugar fruits are best)

– Pear
– Apple

Herbs/spices:

(just a small handful, pinch, etc.)

– Mint
– Basil

– Cacao powder

– Maca powder
– Pumpkin seeds
– Goji berries
– Bee pollen

Fiber (psyllium husks, etc)
