Since I pretty much feed my toddler the same foods I eat, many people ask what I serve for breakfast. Nothing makes me happier than helping Moms find nutritious replacements for “healthy” packaged foods. Especially foods marketed for children that are actually full of GMOs and refined sugar. Keep in mind, the needs of your toddler are not much different than your needs, which means there’s no reason for separate meals. By serving up whole foods first thing in the morning, not only will you be providing the proper nutrition, it will help form a lifetime of healthy eating habits.

DR L: Why did you write a book about green drinks? KVW: It’s no secret anymore that leafy greens are incredibly good for us. However – most of us don’t eat enough of them! Adding greens to juices and smoothies is such an easy way to sneak in a few more servings of greens everyday. I think a lot of people love the idea of this, but are confused about where to start and how to do it. I also wanted to offer people a bunch of recipes that were not only healthy, but also totally delicious! I set about to make a book whose main purpose was to prove to people that these green drinks can be flavorful, fun and yummy. It’s not just liquidized kale. Promise!
I know you know that I think smoothies are the greatest thing since sliced bread (gluten-free of course!). Usually my smoothies do not contain fruit, I prefer adding greens like kale and our Phyto Greens powder instead. However, when winter rolls around, I love to make this Ginger Pear Smoothie, it's got a great kick from the ginger which is balanced by the sweetness of the pear. It's rich and creamy and every sip tastes like a treat!
As 2013 winds down to a close, it’s time to look back at the top blog posts of the year from the Be Well team. As you can see from this list, people are getting passionate about cutting out sugar and processed foods. This year, I’ve seen more awareness and scrutiny of the ingredients in food than ever before. What’s really encouraging is that our hottest blog post of the year was the Top 9 Superfoods, and in the top 13 list, were two on Cleansing, two on getting sugar out of our diets, and a few on gluten-free eating.
